Jay became OCLC’s fourth President on 11 May 1998. Before joining OCLC, Jay was associated with Information Handling Services (IHS) Group, Englewood, Colorado, for 24 years. From 1997 to 1998, he was President, New Business Development. From 1996 to 1997, he was President, Software Standards and Print Products. From 1989 to 1996, he was President, IHS Engineering. From 1984 to 1989, he was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, IHS Engineering. From 1980 to 1984, he was Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing Worldwide. From 1979 to 1980, he was Vice President, U.S. Sales. From 1969 to 1974, he was in sales with Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing in Germany and in Washington, D.C.
Jay graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English literature from Colgate University in 1966. He served as an officer in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969.
